Four Tips For Health And Fitness While Staying In A Hotel

Posted on: 5 March 2015

If you make health and fitness a priority in your day-to-day life, the thought of staying in a hotel may fill you with anxiety. How will you follow your healthy meal plan and keep up with your exercise routine? Whether you are on vacation or a business trip, don't worry. Here are four ways to continue your healthy habits while you're away from home:

1. Utilize the gym.

If the hotel you're staying at has a gym, use it! Even the smallest hotel gym is worthwhile. All you really need to get a good, full-body workout is a treadmill and a little space. Do a half hour of cardio on the treadmill, followed by a few reps of body weight exercises. Push ups, squats, and lunges are all excellent body weight exercises for beginners, states Men's Fitness. Add dumbbells to these exercises for extra strength training and resistance.

2. Go sightseeing... on foot, of course.

If your hotel doesn't have a gym, that's no excuse for skipping exercise! As long as you brought a pair of sturdy shoes, you can get your exercise in the great outdoors. Go for a leisurely walk through the area and take in the sights, or if you're an avid runner, go for a jog instead. Walking or running through a city can be a great way to get to know the area. If you're going to be outside in winter, make sure you pack appropriately warm clothes.

3. Buy real food.

Food from restaurants can often be costly and unhealthy. Unfortunately, that's often the go-to option for many hotel patrons. Stick to a healthy diet by buying food from a local grocery store or farmer's market instead. Food items like whole grain bread, crackers, fruit, and vegetables can often keep for at least a week without refrigeration. If your hotel has a mini-fridge, you can include cheese, hummus, and deli meats in your grocery list. Stick to foods that don't require cooking, and you'll be able to prepare yourself delicious and healthy sandwiches, salads, and snacks for an affordable price.

4. Relax a little!

Don't forget to relax, as well! Staying in a hotel can be a fun, exciting experience. You're away from home and having an adventure, so don't worry if your diet or exercise routine isn't perfect. Just do the best you can, and you can be proud of yourself for making sound choices for your health and wellness.

Staying in a hotel (such as Anco Motel) doesn't have to mean giving up a healthy diet and exercise. With a little planning and perseverance, you can work out and eat well in a hotel, without spending a lot of money.

I have been traveling for my job for the last twenty years, and I could tell you horror stories about loud families and pets that weren't house trained. I want to make your next hotel stay pleasant for you and for everyone else, which is why I made this blog. When you are on the road, try to stay mindful of those around you, so that everyone can have a great time.
